Statement of the National Hydropower Association on Senate Failure to Pass Renewable Energy Incentives

Washington, DC

We are greatly disappointed that the Senate was not able to take up and pass the extension of renewable energy credits included in H.R. 6049 despite widespread support for the legislation among the American public, said Linda Church Ciocci, NHAs executive director.

This legislation extended the Production Tax Credit (PTC), provided additional funding for the Clean Renewable Energy Bonds (CREBs) program, and included support for hydropower development at existing non-powered dams as well as new ocean, tidal and instream hydrokinetic projects.  These provisions would have spurred growth for hydropower in all of its forms.  Without them, many clean, renewable projects will be stalled.  We all lose under this scenario.  Congress needs to find a workable path through its disagreement and pass these extensions without any further delay.  Jobs depend on it; and our clean energy future counts on it.
